New High Court Division for Tribunal Appeals Begins Operations in Nairobi

A new Tribunals Appeals Division of the High Court began operations on July 1 at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, AllAfrica reported. Chief Justice Martha Koome created the division through Gazette Notice No. 10417 issued under Sections 11 and 12(3) of the High Court (Organization and Administration) Act, 2015.
The division will hear appeals from tribunals whose decisions are appealable to the High Court, excluding matters from the Tax Appeals Tribunal. Koome said the establishment forms part of the Judiciary's broader reform agenda aimed at improving institutional efficiency and ensuring justice is delivered expeditiously, fairly and in accordance with the Constitution.
The Judiciary stated that the division is expected to enhance access to justice by providing litigants with a dedicated forum for tribunal-related appeals.
It added that the move will improve efficiency, reduce delays, promote consistency and predictability in judicial decisions, and strengthen the commitment to timely, efficient and people-centred justice.
