Authorities began the search on Thursday morning after the man's wife reported that he had not returned home. She told police he had left for a hike on Wednesday morning.
The man, surnamed Chan, had told his family he planned to hike section 8 of the Lantau Trail, which runs between Shek Pik Reservoir and Kau Ling Chung on the southern part of the island.
Firefighters and search dogs located Chan at 12:31 p.m. on Friday near a public toilet at the Kau Ling Chung campsite in Lantau South Country Park. He was unconscious when found and was pronounced dead at the site at 1 p.m.
