Hockey Canada to Name New General Manager and Head Coach for Women's Team
Hockey Canada announced that its general manager and head coach for the women's national team will not return after their contracts expire. A search committee will select replacements ahead of the next Olympic cycle.
Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday that general manager Gina Kingsbury and head coach Troy Ryan will not return to their roles with the women's national team. Both held contracts scheduled to expire this year. The organization stated that a search committee will identify the next general manager, who will then hire a new head coach.
The committee is chaired by board member Gillian Apps and includes former players Cassie Campbell-Pascall and Thérèse Brisson, along with senior vice president Scott Salmond and other officials.
Kingsbury and Ryan, the team won Olympic gold in 2022 and world championship titles in 2021, 2022, and 2024. The squad lost to the United States at the Olympics in February, at the world championship last spring, and in the Rivalry Series last fall.
Henderson said the organization is grateful for the commitment shown by Kingsbury and Ryan. The new general manager will determine roster decisions for the world championship scheduled for November. Ryan previously identified assistants Kori Cheverie and Caroline Ouellette as potential successors.
The timing of the change aligns with the start of an annual world championship schedule intended to avoid overlap with the PWHL season.
