One day later, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced an election security crackdown. Mullin threatened local election officials with fines, penalties, or prison time for non-compliance.
He stated that the Department of Homeland Security had identified more than 250,000 noncitizens on voter rolls across California, New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. A letter from Mullin to Pennsylvania cited a possible 14,576 noncitizens on voter rolls in that state. Mullin also repeated claims of an unverified 2020 Iran voter file hack.
