Honeywell Aerospace begins independent Nasdaq trading, shares fall on first day

Honeywell Aerospace began trading as an independent company on the Nasdaq on June 29, 2026. The aerospace and defense spinoff from Honeywell International marked the first step in a three-way corporate split announced in 2025 that will also create standalone automation and advanced materials businesses. Shares closed down 0.4 percent on the debut, according to Reuters.

Semafor reported a 3 percent decline by the end of the first trading day. The company took on debt as part of the separation, including funds used to pay a $10.5 billion dividend to Honeywell International. CEO Jim Currier said the conglomerate model is outdated.

He noted that earlier investors had fewer tools such as ETFs and prediction markets and relied on managers to diversify holdings. Currier added that the prior structure led to subpar decisions to placate individual businesses and misallocate capital.

The company can now focus resources on a singular strategy of producing mission-critical hardware for commercial and defense customers worldwide, Currier stated.

He said mergers and acquisitions are planned once the firm works through its new debt load. Honeywell Aerospace reports a $19 billion backlog that is expanding 20 percent annually and says it has ample incoming cash flow.
