Hong Kong to Resume Direct Flights to Almaty in Early 2027
Hong Kong officials announced plans to restart nonstop service to Kazakhstan’s largest city. Cathay Pacific will operate three weekly flights using widebody aircraft beginning in the first quarter of next year.
South China Morning PostHong Kong will restart direct flights to Almaty, Kazakhstan, in the first quarter of 2027. The city’s leader said the route follows government-to-government talks on aviation rights and will be operated by a Hong Kong-based airline. Cathay Pacific Airways confirmed it will run the service three times per week with an Airbus A330-300.
The carrier said the flights will also allow onward connections to other parts of Central Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Caucasus.
The same announcement included an effort to secure up to 30 days of visa-free entry for Hong Kong residents traveling to Kazakhstan. Officials said the measure is intended to support tourism and business travel.
A Hong Kong delegation currently visiting the region is expected to sign as many as 43 partnership agreements with Kazakh organizations. The city’s leader described the deals as covering multiple sectors and said they build on earlier aviation negotiations.
