Coby White intends to sign a three-year, $74 million contract to return to the Charlotte Hornets. The agreement was reported Thursday. White was acquired from the Chicago Bulls before the February 2026 trade deadline.
He averaged 15.6 points per game and shot 39 percent from three-point range in 21 games last season. In the first Eastern Conference play-in game, he scored 19 points and hit a turnaround three-pointer with 10.8 seconds left in regulation to force overtime in Charlotte's 127-126 win over the Miami Heat.
The 6-foot-4 guard will assume a starting role in the backcourt after the Hornets agreed to trade LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Re-signing White had been a major priority for the team. Born in North Carolina, White played college basketball at the University of North Carolina. "He's a tremendous culture fit from the Carolinas," Hornets president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson said in late March.
