Four House incumbents have lost re-election bids so far this year. About a dozen more face primary contests in the coming months. Two Republican incumbents will compete for one California district next week. Two Democratic members lost primaries in Texas last week.

Democratic incumbents in California face challengers who argue voters want generational change. The challengers target Reps. Mike Thompson, Doris Matsui, Brad Sherman, Jimmy Gomez and Linda Sánchez. Entrepreneur Eric Jones has contributed more than $5 million to his campaign against Thompson.

Former White House policy aide Jake Levine loaned his campaign $500,000 and narrowly outraised Sherman. Democratic Reps. Stephen Lynch of Massachusetts, John Larson of Connecticut, Ed Case of Hawaii, Diana DeGette of Colorado, Shri Thanedar of Michigan and Adriano Espaillat of New York also face younger challengers.

Former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin has outraised Larson and won the state Democratic Party endorsement. Larson said on a press call last week that his experience is an asset and that Bronin told him to step aside. Bronin denied the account. He told NBC News that congressional seats were not meant to be lifetime appointments.

Democrats has endorsed challengers including Colorado lawyer Melot Kiros against DeGette and activist Darializa Avila Chevalier against Espaillat. Our Revolution has endorsed overlapping candidates including former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander against Rep. Dan Goldman. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is supporting Lander and Avila Chevalier.

In Maryland, Rep.

April McClain Delaney faces former Rep. David Trone. Trone has invested $10 million in his campaign while Delaney has invested $2 million. In California, Reps. Ken Calvert and Young Kim are running against each other after state Democrats redrew district lines. Kim has run ads citing a 1990s incident involving Calvert reported by the Los Angeles Times.
