House Judiciary Hearing Features Exchange Between Rep. Crockett and Alveda King
Rep. Jasmine Crockett criticized Republican members during a committee hearing on the Southern Poverty Law Center. Alveda King later responded to comments about her family.
Fox NewsRep. Jasmine Crockett addressed the House Judiciary Committee during a hearing focused on the Southern Poverty Law Center. She stated that the vast majority of Republicans on the committee are White men and said White men are lecturing people of color.
She added that any semblance of diversity on the committee comes from the Democratic side. Crockett said Republicans were hypocritical in accusing the SPLC of funding hate groups. She cited President Donald Trump’s “fine people on both sides” comment after the 2017 Charlottesville rally and noted that he later clarified he was referring to a community group opposing the removal of Gen.
Robert E. Lee’s statue before the neo-Nazi violence occurred. Crockett claimed people on social media were wondering who the “Doctor King” speaking against the SPLC was. She said Republicans were trying to make the public think Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. She also accused Alveda King and Republicans of “caping” for murdered activist Charlie Kirk and claimed Republicans called Bryan Fair and Alveda King to distract from their failure to hold a hearing on associates of Jeffrey Epstein.
GOP Rep. Wesley Hunt, a Black Texan, had questioned SPLC leader Bryan Fair earlier in the hearing. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan gaveled out Crockett’s time and passed the floor to Rep.
Fry. Fry gave Alveda King an opportunity to respond. Alveda King said she was a bit emotional about what Crockett had claimed. She said it seemed Crockett had suggested she is a bastard to the King family legacy.
King stated she is legitimately the daughter of Reverend Alfred Daniel Williams King and Dr. Naomi Ruth Barber King. She added that her family loves God and said, “I love you, God bless you,” to Crockett.
