House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told a progressive conference that Democrats plan to defeat MAGA extremists electorally and break their spirit. Republicans responded with criticism on social media.

Jeffries stated that either MAGA extremists are going to break the country or Democrats are going to break them. He said the goal is to break them because of the extremism being unleashed on the American people.
Jeffries also said Democrats are taking back control of the United States House of Representatives in November.
Posted on X that Jeffries wants to break the spirit of 77 million Americans. Minnesota state Rep. Walter Hudson, a Republican, wrote that Jeffries' comment is further evidence that Democrats emanate a spirit of malevolence and called it a declaration of war.
Joe Gruters, chairman of the Republican National Committee, said the majority of Americans voted for President Trump in 2024 and Democrats want to break those who did. Congressman Mike Lee, R-Utah, posted that Jeffries wants to break Trump voters and asked what that means.
