House Oversight Democrats to request interviews with Vance and other Trump officials on Epstein files
Democrats on the committee plan to request testimony from three senior administration officials. The move follows a New York Times report on internal White House disagreements over the files.
The GuardianHouse Oversight and Government Reform Committee ranking member Robert Garcia said he will seek interviews with Vice President JD Vance, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, and FBI Director Kash Patel over the Trump administration’s handling of files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
Garcia stated he will call on committee chair James Comer to summon Vance to testify. Democrats on the committee plan to make the same request for Wiles and Patel.
The requests follow a New York Times report published Wednesday that described the Epstein files as the source of an internal crisis within the administration. According to the book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, a Situation Room meeting was held on July 17, 2025, to discuss the Epstein fallout.
The White House called for the release of grand jury materials related to the case.
Susie Wiles told the group she would discuss the matter with President Donald Trump and ask whether he would post on Truth Social calling for the release of the sealed grand jury documents, the book reported. The New York Times account also noted that Vance pushed for “maximum transparency,” including a suggestion that media personality Tucker Carlson interview Ghislaine Maxwell.
” The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether Vance would agree to appear.
Democrats lack subpoena power as the minority party. The House Oversight Committee has conducted 16 interviews in its Epstein investigation, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, former Attorneys General Pam Bondi and Bill Barr, billionaire Les Wexner, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and Maxwell.
