House Passes 215-208 Symbolic War Powers Resolution on Iran That Faces Senate Hurdles and Expected Veto
The House of Representatives voted 215-208 on Wednesday to require congressional approval before U.S. troops can remain engaged in operations against Iran. The measure now heads to the Senate, where a similar resolution advanced in May.

All Democrats present supported the measure. The remaining Republicans opposed it. Seven members did not vote. Republican leadership had delayed consideration of the measure in late May. Attendance concerns among GOP members prompted the postponement.
The Senate advanced a similar resolution in May. No bicameral agreement has been reached that could reach the president's desk. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast said the vote was a political exercise without clear operational meaning.
"It’s just a total BS vote. I think there’s no Democrat, no Republican that can tell you what forces they would want pulled from Iran," Mast told Fox News. Rep. Gregory Meeks, the resolution's sponsor, said Democratic leaders had secured enough support to pass the measure before the delay.
"We had a vote because of this president's war of choice that was going to pass. We had the votes. Without question, and they knew it," Meeks said. Administration officials have maintained that the 1973 War Powers Resolution is unconstitutional.
A presidential veto is expected if the measure reaches the White House. S. is winning the conflict.
