680news.comThe House on Wednesday passed an amended bipartisan housing package by a 396-13 vote, sending the bill back to the Senate for further action. The legislation aims to streamline regulatory requirements, expand home financing options, and modernize existing housing programs. Lawmakers in both chambers have agreed on those broad goals but have differed on specific provisions.
The House version modifies the Senate bill by banning investors who control more than 350 single-family homes from buying additional properties, while allowing exceptions for build-to-rent investors. The Senate version would have required companies with more than 350 single-family rental units to sell within seven years.
The House also added provisions to provide regulatory relief to community banks to expand home lending. Senate leaders had urged the House to pass their version without changes.
An administration official said the White House supports the House version thanks to the changes that were made. Speaker Mike Johnson said the House-amended version is going to increase the supply and make it easier for local banks to deploy capital in their own communities.

President Trump had called on the House last week to pass the Senate version, which included a provision codifying his executive order banning large Wall Street investment firms from buying up housing supply.
