House Republicans Release Budget Resolution Authorizing Up to $95 Billion Without Offsets

House Republicans released a 47-page budget resolution on Wednesday that directs four House committees to draft legislation authorizing up to $95 billion in spending. The measure sets deficit caps of $60 billion for the Armed Services Committee, $13 billion for the Select Committee on Intelligence, $12 billion for the Agriculture Committee and $10 billion for the House Administration Committee.

It calls for $90 billion in new money for the military and election-related measures, NBC News reported.

The resolution incorporates President Trump's request from last month for $67 billion to replenish Pentagon funding used in the Iran war. It also includes assistance for farmers facing higher gas and fertilizer prices along with retaliatory tariffs. The resolution directs the House Administration Committee to draft legislation requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration.

It contains no offsets to pay for the new spending and uses the reconciliation process, which allows passage by simple majority in both chambers. House Speaker Mike Johnson said in a written statement that congressional Democrats continue obstructing efforts to secure elections and fund the military. Johnson met with President Trump at the White House this week to discuss the measure.

The Budget Committee is scheduled to consider the resolution on Thursday. The full House is expected to take it up the following week.
