The House of Representatives deadlocked at 212-212 on Thursday on a resolution to curb President Donald Trump’s war powers regarding Iran, causing the measure to fail. The resolution, backed by Democrats, would have required the administration to end hostilities with Iran absent congressional authorization.
It marked the first House vote on the conflict since the 60-day period requiring congressional authorization for military action expired.
Three Republicans broke with their party to support the resolution. Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania and Rep. Tom Barrett of Michigan voted in favor. Rep. Jared Golden of Maine was the lone Democrat to vote against the measure.
The House action followed a Senate vote on Wednesday in which a measure to curb President Donald Trump’s war powers in Iran also failed. Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine and Sen.
Rand Paul of Kentucky voted to advance that Senate measure. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania voted against it. The Senate vote represented the seventh attempt by Democrats to pass a war powers resolution since Operation Epic Fury began on February 28.

A Fox News poll published in late April found that 55% of Americans oppose military action against Iran. Nearly six in ten respondents in the poll said the war will not improve the safety of Americans enough to justify military action.
