House Votes 420-0 to Disclose Taxpayer-Funded Sexual Misconduct Settlements

The House voted 420-0 on Tuesday to require the Ethics Committee to preserve and release publicly all chamber records related to sexual harassment settlements paid with taxpayer funds. Rep. Thomas Massie, Republican of Kentucky, introduced the resolution.
It directs the committee to make the records available. Rep. Nancy Mace, Republican of South Carolina, voted present. She had issued a subpoena for similar records in March and released them in May through the Oversight Committee.
The vote follows the resignations of Rep. Eric Swalwell, Democrat of California, and Rep. Tony Gonzales, Republican of Texas, after they faced sexual assault and sexual misconduct allegations, respectively.
In early March the House defeated a separate measure by Mace to release all House records on sexual harassment by a vote of 357-65-1. ” The House adjourned for the July 4 holiday amid an impasse over the SAVE America Act.
