Houston Attorney Endorses Talarico in Texas Senate Race
A Houston defense attorney who previously represented a state official endorsed state Rep. James Talarico in the U.S. Senate race. The attorney cited policy failures under three decades of Republican control and said Talarico could unite voters across party lines.
The HillA Houston defense attorney who previously represented a state official endorsed state Rep. James Talarico in the U.S. Senate race. The attorney said he had defended the official for nine years in an impeachment trial and state criminal cases. He stated that the official had lost sight of the core mission to represent the people of Texas.
The attorney described himself as a registered Democrat and moderate who has donated more to Republican candidates than Democrats. FEC filings show he contributed $6,500 to the official’s campaign last year. He said Texas Republicans had failed to deliver results after 30 years in power.
The attorney listed the state’s rankings as last in healthcare, near the bottom in education, first in school shootings, and first in uninsured residents.
Talarico welcomed the endorsement and said the campaign welcomed Republicans, including those who supported Sen. John Cornyn. He stated that anyone tired of corruption in government had a place in the campaign. Talarico added that even the official’s impeachment lawyer had a place in the campaign.
An aide to the official’s campaign said the attorney is a Democrat and called the endorsement unsurprising. Lead defense attorney Tony Buzbee said he was supporting the official in the race.
