Hungarian Prosecutors Raid Fidesz Office, Opposition Party Claims

The Hungarian Fidesz opposition party said its office was raided by the country's prosecutor's office, according to a Tuesday post on Facebook reported by @Jerusalem_Post. The post stated that the Tisza Party had shifted from political efforts to legal ones after failing to eliminate Fidesz through other means.

It claimed the prosecutor's office intended to seize the party's entire communication system and databases.

Fidesz added that it would not yield to political or legal threats and would continue to oppose the Tisza Party. The post noted that such an action had not occurred in Hungary since the end of communism in 1990. On Saturday, President Tamas Sulyok signed a constitutional amendment passed by Prime Minister Peter Magyar's ruling Tisza party that ended his term as head of state.

Sulyok said he had no choice but to approve the legislation because it respected the letter of the law.
