The Carolina Hurricanes will raise their second Stanley Cup championship banner on September 29 before hosting the Florida Panthers to open the NHL season, ESPN reported. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET and will be part of an opening-night tripleheader on ESPN.
The NHL announced the 2026-27 regular season schedule on July 15. The season expands to 84 games per team through the addition of two more divisional contests, producing 1,344 total games, the most in league history. Play begins before October for the first time since the 1993-94 season.

The Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Finals to win the title for the first time since 2006. The Panthers had won the previous two championships before injuries caused them to miss the playoffs.
