The company opened new facilities at its Namyang R&D Center that use simulators, robotic scanners and wire-car replicas to shorten vehicle development cycles. The upgrades support the group's shift toward software-defined vehicles and over-the-air updates.
YonhapHyundai Motor Group's Namyang R&D Center in Hwaseong has added several digital testing facilities that allow engineers to evaluate vehicles before physical prototypes exist. The Driving Simulator Studio, finished in February, uses a 270-degree screen and a digital copy of the center's proving ground to run tests that once required one to two months on the track.
The same simulator now completes those checks in about a week, according to the company.
At the Digital Measurement Center, two robotic arms scan vehicle bodies at roughly 1,000 points with sub-millimeter accuracy to verify dimensions. The Additive Manufacturing Solution Center uses industrial 3D printers to produce prototype parts directly from digital files without molds.
The lab supports the group's transition to software-defined vehicles that receive over-the-air updates after leaving the factory. The company said the new digital tools reduce development time, improve quality and allow faster adoption of advanced manufacturing methods.
