ICE Agent Fatally Shoots Mexican National During Houston Traffic Stop

An ICE agent fatally shot a Mexican national during a traffic stop in Houston on Thursday. The agency identified the man as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and said he tried to flee after agents directed him to pull over, then rammed an ICE vehicle and ignored repeated commands to stop before attempting to run over an officer with his car. An agent opened fire, striking the driver.

Salgado Araujo was transported to a hospital where he later died, according to authorities. Officials described him as an illegal immigrant. The shooting took place during an ICE operation in the city.

The New York Times reported that no evidence was immediately offered to support ICE's account of the incident. Ronaldo Salgado, the man's son, told Telemundo Houston that his father had been in the area looking to hire workers. The Houston shooting follows earlier deadly encounters involving ICE agents and vehicles.

Agents shot a man in Chicago in September 2025 after he rammed officers. In Minneapolis, agents shot and killed activist Renee Nicole Good after claiming she tried to run over an officer, a claim disputed by activists and followed by protests.
