ICE Agents Kill Man in Biddeford, Maine During Enforcement Operation

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents shot and killed a man in Biddeford, Maine, on Monday, Fox News reported. The city lies about 15 miles southwest of Portland. Hours after the shooting, four Democratic Senate candidates joined hundreds of protesters who marched by the site.

Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows told reporters, "This is not acceptable in America. " Jackson held a sign at the protest calling for abolishing ICE and said he has been calling for the agency's dismantling for months. " The Maine incident is the second in a week in which ICE agents used deadly force, following a fatal shooting during a traffic stop in Houston, Texas.

It is the latest in a series that includes the shooting deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the beginning of the year. The Maine attorney general's office and the FBI are investigating the shooting. Initial statements suggest the motorist targeted in the operation was attempting to flee in the direction of an ICE agent.

Two immigration advocacy groups said the man was authorized to work in the U.S. and had a Social Security number. The shooting came three days after Graham Platner ended his Senate campaign amid controversies and allegations of sexual misconduct that he has repeatedly denied.

Platner, backed last September by Sen. Bernie Sanders, was challenging Republican Sen. Susan Collins. Seven Democrats have filed to run for the Democratic nomination, which will be decided by roughly 600 voting delegates at a July 25 convention.

Sen. Susan Collins stated following the shooting that "a full and impartial investigation of what happened" was needed. Platner dropped out of the race on Wednesday after Politico reported the allegations.
