U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested multiple convicted murderers, child sex offenders and sexual predators yesterday in a nationwide operation, the Department of Homeland Security announced on May 29, 2026.

The arrests targeted criminal illegal aliens. Named individuals include Javier Gurrusquita, a Mexican national convicted of murder in Dallas County, Texas; Reinerio Mendoza-Diaz, a Honduran national convicted of second-degree sexual assault on a child younger than 14; and Gary Smith Apolinanario-Apolinario, a Peruvian national convicted of fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child.

Additional arrestees faced convictions for sexual assault and procuring for prostitution in Utah, California and Connecticut.

The operation shifts ICE interior enforcement from prior levels to active removal of high-risk convicted criminals already inside the United States. Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis stated that ICE arrested murderers, pedophiles, child abusers and sexual predators in the preceding 24 hours.

Downstream effects include immediate placement of those arrested into immigration detention, initiation of removal proceedings, and reduced presence of individuals with these specific convictions in local communities. State and local law enforcement agencies that previously held these individuals now transfer custody to federal immigration authorities.

Federal prosecutors and immigration courts must schedule expedited removal cases tied to these convictions.

This action follows repeated public statements from the Trump administration on prioritizing criminal aliens for interior enforcement. The May 29 announcement aligns with earlier ICE operations that focused on individuals convicted of homicide, sexual assault and crimes against children rather than civil immigration violations alone.
