Araujo was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries. Ronaldo Salgado, who identified himself as Araujo's son, said his father was in the area seeking workers for hire when the shooting occurred. The FBI will take over the investigation.
Reuters reported that it could not immediately verify Araujo's immigration status or the circumstances of the shooting. The FBI and Department of Homeland Security did not respond to requests for comment.
