ICE officers involved in fatal shooting of 26-year-old man in Biddeford, Maine; investigation underway

A fatal shooting involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers occurred Monday morning in Biddeford, Maine, killing a 26-year-old Colombian man authorized to work in the United States. @NBCNews reported the incident took place at the intersection of Pool and Hill streets.

Daniel Boucher, 71, who lives on a corner of the street, said he heard shots at about 7:30 a.m. He saw a large white vehicle ram a smaller one before the vehicles collided again. Boucher said an officer opened the door of one vehicle and pulled out a man whose head was bleeding profusely.

Gov. Janet Mills stated she had been briefed on the fatal incident involving federal law enforcement. She said Maine state police are cooperating with local and federal officials in the investigation.

Sen. Susan Collins said the FBI is investigating. "The shooting in Biddeford requires a full and impartial investigation of what happened," she stated. Maine Speaker of the House Ryan Fecteau said a shooting occurred in Biddeford on the morning of July 13, a person was killed, and ICE was involved.

He added that state police and the Department of Public Safety are on scene gathering details and expect the FBI to investigate. Former state Sen. Troy Jackson issued a statement about the shooting in the community about 15 miles south of Portland, Maine.

The Department of Homeland Security, ICE, local police and the state’s Department of Public Safety did not immediately respond to requests for comment, @NBCNews reported.
