IDF Chief of Staff Visits Family of Battalion Commander Killed by Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon

-Gen. -Col. Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon on Sunday, June 21, 2026, after the officer was killed by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. Zamir spoke with Ben Simhon's parents, his widow Ariella, and his five brothers during the visit.

Ariella serves as an officer in the Northern Command. All five brothers are or have been combat soldiers. -Col. Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon, from Beit HaShita in northern Israel, commanded the 52nd Battalion of the 401st Armored Brigade.

He was the fourth commander of the battalion since the October 7, 2023 massacre. The previous three commanders were all wounded. -Gen. Ori Gordin. A photograph of the visit was released by the IDF Spokesperson's Unit and credited to that unit.

Zamir regularly speaks about fallen and wounded soldiers, including at a conference in Jerusalem last week, and tries to speak to many families, but visiting the home of Ben Simhon's family was an unusual event.
