IDF troops from Division 36 operating in the Wadi Saluki area uncovered a fortified Hezbollah anti-tank missile position, the military revealed on Sunday. Soldiers operating in the field discovered several rockets belonging to Hezbollah, alongside a launcher aimed at the wadi.
Background on the 2006 battle During the Second Lebanon War, the battle at the site was one of the hardest of the war. IDF armored forces began to cross the wadi, while troops from the Nahal Brigade and Engineering Corps attempted to secure the area.
The operation was delayed and postponed several times until Hezbollah, noticing the IDF's movement in the field, triggered an ambush. Eleven IDF officers and soldiers were killed in the battle, including two company commanders from the 401st Brigade.
Over 50 soldiers were wounded in the fighting.
Recent visit In a moment of closure last week, the former battalion commander visited troops operating in the area, near the place from which he maneuvered the 9th Battalion toward Wadi Saluki, opposite the village of Anduria, during the 2006 war.
