Andre Iguodala said LeBron James considering the Golden State Warriors in free agency reflects Stephen Curry's stature in the league. Iguodala, the 2015 Finals MVP, made the comments Friday after the National Basketball Players Association's executive leadership transition news conference.
He referenced a recent text exchange in which a friend noted that Curry drawing another top player would speak to his standing. "As I've been saying since 2013, Steph Curry, no one understands how great he is," Iguodala told ESPN.
James last faced the Warriors in the 2023 playoffs, when his Lakers defeated Golden State 4-2 in the conference semifinals. The Warriors finished 37-45 last season and missed the playoffs. Curry averaged 26.6 points, 4.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds while earning an All-Star selection this past season.
James' free agency Iguodala also commented on the attention surrounding James entering what would be his 24th NBA season. He said the level of interest shows the league's global appeal. Iguodala noted that James is "very much so deserving" of the focus and that the situation creates excitement among fans.
