Topuria wrote that he had heard similar predictions before from opponents who described him as a small fighter about to receive a lesson in humility.
“Your son already knows who I am. On June 14th, you will…” the post stated. Topuria holds a 17-0 professional record. John Ray Gaethje had referenced Topuria’s 5-foot-7-inch height while speaking on his son’s YouTube channel.
“He’s fighting another little short guy, and he’s done really well against (Michael) Chandler and (Rafael) Fiziev, and a few of the others,” the elder Gaethje said. ” Gaethje added that the bout represents the biggest fight of his son’s career but noted the family had used that description three or four times previously.
“This is what we trained for, this is what he’s put his whole life into since he was four years old, and I’m excited for it to happen,” he said.
The contest is listed as the UFC Freedom 250 headliner. m. ET.
