The International Maritime Organization says roughly 500 vessels are still inside the strait despite formal reopening. Plans are underway to coordinate their evacuation and clear sea mines.
The International Maritime Organization reported that approximately 500 ships remain trapped inside the Strait of Hormuz. The IMO Secretary-General stated that plans are now in place to coordinate all parties on evacuating the ships and their crews. The same statement said the strait needs to be cleared of sea mines as fast as possible.
The IMO Secretary-General added there is still no confirmation that the Strait of Hormuz is safe for traffic. On paper the strait is reopening. In the water, 500 ships are still waiting to get out, according to the report.
