India Sets Record Russian Crude Imports in June as U.S. Sanctions Waiver Expires
India took in 2.6 million barrels per day of Russian crude early in June, accounting for 53.5 percent of its total oil imports. Kpler estimates full-month arrivals will reach a record 2.35 million barrels per day.

India imported 2.6 million barrels per day of Russian crude oil during the first part of June 2026, zerohedge.com reported. Russian crude accounted for 53.5 percent of all Indian oil imports in the period, according to vessel-tracking data from Kpler cited by Indian media. Imports reached 2.66 million barrels per day, nearly 40 percent above the May level.
Kpler projects full-month June arrivals at a record 2.35 million barrels per day, exceeding the prior high of 2.2 million barrels per day set in May 2023. Russian crude exports to India fell to 555,000 barrels per day in the most recent week reported. In the same week the U.S.
Allowed its waiver on Russian oil sales to expire without renewal, India signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran. “India’s imports remained strong through June, supported by continued discounts and steady refinery demand,” Sumit Ritolia, manager of modelling and refining at Kpler, told Financial Express. ” India began large-scale purchases of Russian crude in 2022 after the U.S.
And EU imposed sanctions on Russia. Russia remains India’s single-largest oil supplier. India is also purchasing growing volumes of crude from Nigeria, Angola, Brazil, and Venezuela as Middle East supply declines.
