The Indiana Pacers agreed to a fully guaranteed two-year deal with the six-foot-eight forward. The contract is valued at nearly $17 million and uses the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception.
winnipegfreepress.comThe Indiana Pacers agreed to terms with free agent wing Kelly Oubre on a two-year contract worth nearly $17 million. The deal carries no options and is fully guaranteed. Oubre, who played last season for the Philadelphia 76ers, will join the Pacers bench after the team traded Bennedict Mathurin during the prior season.
Oubre averaged 14.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game with the 76ers. He has posted more than 14 points per game in every season since 2017-18 and exceeded 20 points per game with the Charlotte Hornets in 2022-23. He converts roughly 70 percent of shots at the rim, with more than 90 percent of his attempts last season coming from inside 10 feet or beyond the three-point line.
General manager Chad Buchanan addressed the team’s need for bench depth after the NBA Draft. “We like some pieces off our bench. But I think the reason we had successful playoff runs was because of the depth of the team.
And we feel like we want to get back to that depth that we had on those runs,” Buchanan said. He added that the wing position remained an area for possible additions. The first year of the contract is valued between $8 million and $8.5 million.
The Pacers are expected to use the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception, which will hard-cap the team at just over $209 million. Indiana’s current payroll stands at approximately $207 million. The signing brings the roster to 14 players under contract, 12 of them guaranteed.
