Indonesia arrests deputy immigration minister in corruption case
The deputy minister for immigration affairs was detained after roughly ten hours of questioning by the country's anticorruption agency. The arrest follows a separate detention of the former head of the National Nutrition Agency one day earlier.

Budi Prasetyo, spokesperson for the KPK, told Reuters that the arrest concerns alleged irregularities in the administration of immigration documents between 2023 and 2024, when the official served as director general for immigration affairs.
The deputy minister was transferred to detention wearing an orange jacket and handcuffs. The KPK has identified seven additional suspects in the same case, with further details scheduled for release later Thursday.
Separate case One day earlier, the Attorney General's Office arrested the former head of the National Nutrition Agency on corruption charges linked to the free-meals programme. Two more suspects were detained in that investigation. Investigators allege that foundations operating the programme in schools were used to facilitate criminal activity.
State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the government respects the legal proceedings conducted by the KPK and the AGO. The latest arrests follow the April detention of Indonesia's chief ombudsman on bribery charges six days after his appointment.
