IndyCar Adds Qualifying Round For 110th Indianapolis 500
IndyCar has revised its qualification format for the 110th Indianapolis 500 because all 33 entered cars will start the race. The change eliminates the Last Chance Qualifying round and adds a new session on May 17 to determine the Fast 12. Qualifications will take place over two days, May 16-17, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with live coverage on FOX.

IndyCar has changed the qualification format for the 110th Indianapolis 500 after 33 cars were entered for the 33-car starting lineup. The series eliminated the Last Chance Qualifying round that had been used to set the final row because no cars will be bumped from the field.
Officials added another round on the final day of qualifying to determine the Fast 12 that will advance to the Firestone Fast Six. m. m. Eastern time. It will set starting positions 16 through 33. The fastest nine cars from that session will advance directly to the Top 12 round on Sunday while cars ranked 10th through 15th will compete in a Final 15 session to fill the remaining three spots in the Top 12.

The Top 12 session will include those three cars followed by the nine that advanced automatically from Day One, also running slowest to fastest. m. Each driver will have one four-lap qualifying run in reverse order based on the prior round.
The pole sitter will earn the NTT P1 Award and a $100,000 prize while the remaining five will fill the first two rows of the grid. Positions seven through 12 will be set by times from the Top 12 session.
Championship points for the 2026 NTT IndyCar Series will be awarded to drivers who reach the Top 12 qualifying session. The pole winner will receive 12 points, second place 11 points, and the total will decrease by one point for each subsequent position down to one point for 12th.
