Infantino Defends 2026 World Cup Ticket Prices and Says FIFA Cannot Override U.S. Visa Decisions
Gianni Infantino addressed criticism over pricing and entry rules one day before the tournament opens between Mexico and South Africa.
The IndependentU.S. visa decisions on June 10 in Mexico City, one day before the 2026 World Cup opens between co-hosts Mexico and South Africa. Infantino said the average ticket price for the tournament is under $500 and that tickets start at $140.
He stated that critics should blame the wider North American market if FIFA was overcharging. Regular seats for the July 19 final in New Jersey were initially priced up to $8,680. FIFA later raised those prices to $10,990 and then to $32,970 before offering a limited number of $60 tickets to national federations.
Infantino also addressed the case of Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan, who was barred from entering the United States despite holding a valid visa. " "FIFA is not the kings of the world" when it comes to entry decisions, Infantino said. He added that the organization is working to find solutions on visa issues but cannot override government decisions.
Infantino highlighted FIFA's efforts to secure entry for Iran's national team. He noted that the secondary ticket market is outside FIFA's control and that the organization cannot influence resale prices.
