winnipegfreepress.comThe International Tennis Federation has changed its name to World Tennis, ESPN reported. The organization oversees the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup team competitions as well as tennis at the Olympics and Paralympics. The name switch was ratified in October by member national tennis associations at the governing body's annual general meeting.

" World Tennis is based in London and works with the ATP and WTA Tours and the four Grand Slam tournaments to organize the professional side of the sport.
CEO Ross Hutchins said the renaming reflects the organization's "global nature," noting that many view the sport's seven governing bodies as having distinct purposes that together form a larger whole.
