A report from 9to5Mac stated that the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a rumored folding model may include a new Apple-designed modem called the C2. The modem is described as providing standard 5G cellular service while also supporting 5G NR-NTN satellite connectivity. This technology integrates satellite links directly with the cellular network.
Current iPhone satellite functions rely on Globalstar and require users to point the device toward the sky for connection. The proposed C2 modem could allow automatic switching to satellite service when terrestrial coverage is weak. The same report noted that T-Mobile’s Starlink-based service, introduced last year, permits pocket-based satellite access without manual alignment for its subscribers.
