Iran has announced the creation of a new authority to oversee operations in the Strait of Hormuz. The Supreme National Security Council stated that the Persian Gulf Strait Authority will provide real-time updates on developments in the critical shipping route.

The announcement follows reports that Iran intends to offer insurance coverage for vessels passing through the strait and surrounding Gulf waters. Payments under the proposed scheme would be settled in cryptocurrency, according to a report by Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency.

Germany’s chancellor condemned recent attacks on the UAE and other partners in the Gulf region. The statement called for Iran to resume negotiations with the United States and to keep the Strait of Hormuz open without restrictions. The UAE’s minister of industry and advanced technology described a drone attack on the Barakah nuclear plant as a terrorist incident.

The minister said the facility was built to the highest safety standards and supplies power to homes, hospitals, and industries. Poland’s prime minister urged continued transatlantic cooperation despite recent U.S. decisions on troop deployments. The comments followed the Pentagon’s decision to cancel plans to send additional U.S. troops to Poland.
