Fox NewsIran executed at least 18 prisoners between May 31 and June 1, according to documents provided to Fox News Digital by the Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran. The same documents stated that eight of the 32 people executed between March 19 and June 1 belonged to the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran. The remaining 24 were participants in protests that began in January.
Executions and prison conditions The National Council of Resistance of Iran reported on June 7 that five political prisoners in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz face imminent execution. Four of those prisoners were sentenced to death on charges of membership in the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran.
The Iran Human Rights Society separately confirmed the figure of 18 executions between May 31 and June 1. A representative of the group said the actual number is almost certainly higher because authorities often carry out executions without public announcement.
Internet restrictions Internet connectivity in Iran has been largely restored but remains limited compared with conditions before the protests and conflict this year, the director of NetBlocks told Fox News Digital. International access is slow for most users, with indications of throttling and increased filtering of messaging apps.
The service has stayed in the same state since restoration, with no significant improvement or further deterioration, the director said. The United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran did not respond to a request for comment on the reported executions.
