The defendant, identified as Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, was sentenced to death on charges of corruption on earth through participation in the intentional killing of Abbas Fatemiyeh, according to the rights group HRANA.

The protests were sparked by the death of a young woman, Mahsa Amini, in police custody. Fatemiyeh died during these demonstrations. Mizan stated that Abdollahzadeh confessed to assaulting the security officer. HRANA quoted an informed source as saying Abdollahzadeh was subjected to torture to extract forced confessions.
Relatives of Abdollahzadeh told Kurdpa News Agency that he faced severe physical and psychological torture during detention.
Relatives also stated that review of CCTV footage showed Abdollahzadeh was not present at the scene of the killing, and that these recordings were in the possession of security forces. They added there was no evidence placing him at the time and location of the incident.
Two other defendants, convicted of aiding in Fatemiyeh's death, were sentenced to imprisonment and detention in a juvenile correctional facility because they were under 18 years old, HRANA reported. The Supreme Court upheld Abdollahzadeh's sentence in late 2025, leading to the execution reported on May 3, 2026.
