Iran will pursue a legal complaint against Israel and the United States over the assassination of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, an Iranian government spokeswoman said. "The process of filing a complaint after collecting evidence and documentation has begun and is being followed up," the spokeswoman told reporters.
The announcement follows the reported killing of Khamenei, who served as Iran's supreme leader before his death.
Iranian officials have not provided a timeline for when the complaint will be submitted or which international body will receive it. Shi'ite mourners in Lebanon marked Ashura on June 26, 2026, with banners depicting Khamenei displayed during the observance.
