Iran Says Military Operations Against Israel Have Ended After Overnight Strikes
Iran announced the end of its military operations against Israel following the largest escalation between the two nations overnight. Markets reacted with oil prices easing and U.S. stock futures rising after the declaration.
Iran declared Monday that its military operations against Israel had concluded after the two sides exchanged missile strikes overnight. The Fars news agency reported that Iran’s central military command stated the operation had ended. Earlier, Israel conducted airstrikes on apartment buildings in Beirut’s Dahiya district, which Iran said crossed red lines and prompted four waves of retaliatory strikes.
U.S. stock futures rebounded after the announcement.
S&P futures rose 0.7 percent and Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 1.4 percent as of 8:00 a.m. ET. Brent crude pared gains after rising as much as 5.4 percent overnight. The contract last traded near $95 a barrel.
Iranian media reported no immediate casualties after apparent Israeli strikes on the Karun petrochemical plant in Mahshahr. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they responded by launching a missile attack on a similar plant in Haifa. The president added that Lebanon is discussing a non-aggression agreement and told Israel that military action cannot produce long-term security.
