Iran's parliament speaker said Tehran will not approve any agreement until it receives firm guarantees and tangible results. The statement was issued during a virtual session of parliament after the speaker took the oath as the chamber's re-elected leader.

"There is no trust in the enemy's words and promises.

Our only criterion is to achieve tangible results before we fulfill our commitments in return," the speaker said, according to IRIB. He added during a televised appearance that Iran will not approve any agreement until certain the rights of the Iranian people have been upheld.

Revised U.S.

Details of the proposal have not been made public, but the reports indicated Washington wants stronger commitments from Tehran before any final settlement.

President Trump said that under a future agreement Iran would impose no tolls on vessels using the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian sources told the Fars news agency that no such clause exists in the negotiations.

A ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation took effect on April 8, but violence has not fully disappeared. The conflict began after U.S. and Israeli strikes targeted Iran in late February. Earlier this week, U.S. forces struck the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, and Iran responded with retaliatory fire.
