Iran Says No U.S. Talks Scheduled This Week as U.S. Delegation Heads to Qatar

Iran's Foreign Ministry said it will not hold any negotiation meetings at any level with the American side in the coming days. The statement directly contradicts an earlier announcement by President Trump that a meeting requested by Iran would take place Tuesday in Doha.

President Trump posted on Truth Social early Monday that "Iran has requested a meeting. " A White House official had said the Witkoff-Kushner delegation was en route to Qatar for talks.

Witkoff and Jared Kushner are scheduled to meet with Qatar's prime minister on Tuesday. Technical teams from the U.S. and Iran are also set to meet separately with Qatari and Pakistani mediators on Wednesday, according to Axios reporting cited by Bloomberg.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated that no technical talks with the U.S. are scheduled this week in Doha. Iran's Fars news agency reported that no nuclear negotiations have been held with the U.S. so far and none will occur until Iran's conditions are met.

Qatar suspended most maritime activity on Monday, halting recreational and fishing boats, jet skis, and other vessels until further notice. The decision followed the death of a Qatari citizen from shrapnel during military operations in the area. Commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continued at reduced levels after recent attacks on two vessels.

A handful of vessels made open transits over the weekend, according to tracking data. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that any new arrangements outside the current process would complicate the situation and delay reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
