Iran Peace Deal Signed With Sanctions Relief and Reconstruction Funds

An agreement between the United States and Iran took effect Thursday, providing immediate sanctions relief and access to previously frozen Iranian assets along with $300 billion allocated for economic reconstruction. The pact also establishes a 60-day period for further negotiations on nuclear issues while postponing detailed nuclear talks.

Several senators who reviewed the memorandum of understanding expressed differing views on its terms. One senator stated the deal represents progress because Iran cannot obtain nuclear weapons, no U.S. troops are deployed on the ground, and measurable advances have occurred.

Another senator voiced concern that hundreds of billions of dollars could reach groups such as Hezbollah and other proxies or support rebuilding of Iran's nuclear program. The same senator added that the agreement appears to constitute unconditional surrender by the United States rather than by Iran and looks worse than a prior nuclear arrangement reached under the Obama administration.

A third senator said enforcement will decide the outcome and urged U.S. allies to participate in oversight. A fourth senator indicated the memorandum of understanding had not yet been fully reviewed and planned to read it multiple times before forming a final assessment.

Fox News reported that many senators declined to comment until they examined the complete document.

The agreement does not grant authority to compel full compliance during the 60-day negotiation window. Officials said the deal focuses on sanctions relief and reconstruction funding while deferring detailed nuclear verification measures.
