Iran Plans to Convert Bombed Isfahan University Site into Museum on Strikes
Iranian authorities announced plans to preserve the damaged Isfahan University of Technology as a museum documenting effects of U.S.-Israeli strikes. The university sustained about $11 million in infrastructure damage from attacks in March. This follows a war that began on February 28 and has affected multiple sites across Iran.
india.comIranian officials stated they will transform the site of the bombed Isfahan University of Technology into a museum focused on the impact of U.S.-Israeli strikes. The head of the institution, Zafarollah Kalantari, said the damaged area will be preserved to serve as a historical record.
Other parts of the campus will be used for new construction and equipment upgrades, according to the official IRNA news agency. Initial assessments estimate the damage at approximately $11 million. The strikes occurred in March, following the start of the war on February 28, which later expanded across the Middle East.
Officials reported that U.S.-Israeli strikes targeted more than 30 universities in Iran, including in Tehran, as well as residential areas and other civilian infrastructure.
In related developments, Iran executed Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, convicted of killing security officer Abbas Fatemiyeh during 2022 protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody. The Supreme Court upheld his death sentence in late 2025, and the judiciary's Mizan outlet reported he confessed to the assault.
Rights group HRANA stated, citing an informed source, that Abdollahzadeh was tortured to obtain a forced confession. In southern Lebanon, Israeli forces issued evacuation orders to residents of 11 villages, including three receiving such orders for the first time, some north of the Litani River.
A ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, brokered by the U.S. and effective from mid-April, has been extended to mid-May. Thienminh Dinh, an emergency physician with Doctors Without Borders in Tyre, stated that civilians, including children, continue to face attacks despite the ceasefire.
She described treating a two-year-old and a four-year-old with severe injuries this week.
A 50-year-old Palestinian man with Israeli citizenship was shot dead in Shefa-Amr, marking the 100th such killing this year, according to media reports. Of the victims, 90 were shot, and 48 were under age 30, including eight women. In the nuclear dispute, the U.S. demands Iran halt uranium enrichment as part of any war-ending deal.
President Trump has stated that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon was a reason for the attacks. Iran denies seeking weapons and maintains its program is for civilian purposes, with the UN nuclear watchdog reporting Iran holds about 440kg of uranium enriched to 60 percent.
Off Somalia's coast, at least three vessels were targeted in hijackings this week, raising concerns about resurgent piracy. The World Bank previously estimated the annual global economic impact of Somali piracy at up to $18 billion during its peak in the early 2000s.
