Karari is a dual Iranian-U.S. citizen whose passport was seized in December 2024 while she faced espionage charges, according to The New York Times. She had been working with a children's charity at the time of her arrest on charges of collaboration and spying, her attorney Jared Genser said.
Genser posted on X that the release would not have happened without Trump's efforts. Several other U.S. citizens remain held in Iran, including some in Evin Prison in Tehran.
