Iran and U.S. sign memorandum of understanding on nuclear issues

thehindu.comIranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said nearly all members of parliament backed the memorandum of understanding after intensive discussions. He stated the document would test U.S. willingness to respect Iranian rights and called it an important step toward ending conflict and starting negotiations.
Pezeshkian wrote on X that Supreme Leader Motjaba Khamenei played the greatest role in adding clauses to protect national interests. He added that the memorandum resulted from months of dialogue and that Iran has prepared for all outcomes if the provisions are implemented.
Regional responses Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the struggle is not yet over despite the agreement. He claimed earlier actions had prevented nuclear destruction. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the developments by phone.
Aoun said Lebanon’s stability, security, and sovereignty remain national priorities and expressed hope the understanding would reduce tensions.
Ongoing developments Intermittent Israeli shelling continued in southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh, according to Al Jazeera Arabic’s bureau chief. Reports indicated damage to residential areas and obstacles for residents attempting to return. Hamas welcomed the U.S.-Iran agreement and said it hoped the deal would lead to an end to military actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
