Iran's Foreign Ministry called on the International Atomic Energy Agency to condemn U.S. air strikes on the Darkhovin nuclear plant in southwestern Iran. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said at a Tehran news conference that Iran expects the IAEA board and director general to state their position on the strikes.
He noted the agency has previously issued political statements on nuclear issues. Baghaei said the Darkhovin facility remains under construction and is intended for peaceful purposes.
Guard issued a statement saying its ground forces maintain up-to-date equipment and continuous training. Brigadier-General Ruhollah Nouri said forces are prepared to neutralize any enemy incursion immediately.
Brent crude for September delivery rose to $91.42 per barrel overnight before easing to $90.20. The Foreign Ministry said messages from the U.S. have reached Tehran through intermediaries in recent days. Baghaei rejected any choice between war and diplomacy, stating both are tools for pursuing national interests.
He added that armed forces will respond to continued attacks. Iranian officials said a U.S. citizen referenced in recent statements was not a prisoner and had no pending case.
