Iranian Attacks Damage 228 Structures at U.S. Bases Across Five Countries but Most Follow-on Strikes Intercepted and U.S. Forces Remain
Iran struck bases in Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait over recent months, killing seven U.S. service members. Damage assessments and future basing plans remain under review.

The strikes damaged or destroyed at least 228 structures or pieces of equipment, according to a Washington Post tally published in early May that counted barracks, hangars, fuel depots and aircraft.

U.S. Service members died in the Iranian attacks. Six were killed in a single drone strike in Kuwait. One additional service member died at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. U.S. troops died in a refueling accident in Iraq unrelated to enemy fire.
U.S. Naval Forces Central Command are headquartered at Naval Support Activity Bahrain. U.S. Personnel before the conflict. The Combined Air Operations Center at Al Udeid directed air campaigns in Afghanistan, against the Houthis in Yemen and against the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.
At the start of the war, the military shifted air-campaign direction to a facility at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina after the Al Udeid command center took a direct hit from multiple missiles.
The Pentagon removed many troops from bases expected to be early Iranian targets before hostilities began. A Pentagon official said the department does not discuss battle damage assessments for operational security reasons. “Our forces remain fully operational, and we continue to execute our mission with the same readiness and combat effectiveness,” the official stated.
